Here is my Lent devotion for Tuesday, March 3 that I wrote for our church Lent booklet. The Scripture is Hebrews 3:1-11. It's a poem entitled, "We Are God's House." Enjoy!
We Are God’s House
Hebrews 3:1-11
“Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later. Christ, however, was faithful over God’s house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm that confidence and the pride that belong to hope.” (Heb. 3:5)
O God, you call the most humble and lowly to do your works-
Moses, who led your people through the wilderness,
Your child, Your servant, Your friend
He spoke for You, he fought for You, he lived for You
He was in Your house, O God, and you glorified him
Yet one was to come who is worthy of even more glory
Jesus, Your Son
Our High Priest
Our Savior
Our Messiah
Your representative on earth
The builder and consecrator of Your house
Jesus, who holds the keys,
Who invites us in
Who call us to be Your house, God’s House
For this is a house of hope
Of love
Of light instead of darkness
Where death gives way to life
Where we experience Your glory
Where we reside in nothing but your grace
Where we meet you face to face
Just as the women who met You at the empty tomb
And shouted with the angels, “He is Risen, He is Risen Indeed!”
And so now we proclaim O God, “We are yours, your Easter people!
We are Your house!”
And oh, what a firm foundation it is.
Amen.
