Holy Week is one of my favorite times of the year. Somehow, it is the busiest, yet the most sacred time for me. We started off the week on Palm Sunday with our Easter Cantata, which I got to be a part of, and then it was a few days of planning for services and events coming up. Thursday, we had our Seder meal, which wasn't a complete Seder meal really- it was a time for me to explain what the Seder meal is, why Jews celebrate Passover with a Seder, and why Christians should be educated about it. We had a Seder plate for each table and we talked about what each food item stood for and everyone got to try a little bit of everything. This is the one time a year that you will find me slaving away in the kitchen! I got there extra early to start making the Matzah Ball soup and had people help make some potato pancakes, which are technically not "kosher for Passover," but we have them anyway so people can try popular Jewish foods. Anyway, we had over 50 people sign up for the Seder this year, so it was really exciting to see so many people interested in it. Then we had our Maundy Thursday worship service, which was great as well.
Good Friday is probably my favorite worship gathering of the year. It's not overdone like Easter is sometimes, it's reflective, and not every church has a Good Friday worship. It's a chance to be extra creative and to do something different. Our worship is made up of songs and hymns, a video meditation, and scripture readings from the Passion story. The songs and hymns are intertwined with the story so that the songs give a time for reflection and further meditation and understanding of the story that is being read. In my opinion, this is where we have some of our most beautiful music of the year.
And finally, Easter morning was great as well. I preached the sunrise service bright and early at 7:00 am (even after being at the Butler game the night before and cheering so much that my voice hurt!), and then we had our 2 worship services, mixed in with confirmation and a baptism. It was a worshipful day of celebrating the Risen Christ!
And of course, I can't leave out the fact that the Butler Bulldogs, my alma mater, are heading to the national championship game tonight! Corey and I, thanks to my parents, have tickets to the game, and we had tickets to the game this past Saturday night. So we had a blast cheering them on, and what a game it was! What are the odds that the year Indy is hosting, Butler is hosting, that they make it all the way to the finals?! And we have tickets?! It seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity! So GO BULLDOGS! We'll be there in all the action, cheering you on!
